EB-2 has advanced for most countries. See what this means in practice for those waiting in line.
The Visa Bulletin is published monthly by the US Department of State and defines cutoff dates for each immigrant visa category. In practice, it determines who can advance in the process based on their priority date — the date the petition was accepted by USCIS.
For Brazilians, the most relevant categories are EB-1 (priority workers), EB-2 (advanced professionals or national interest), and EB-3 (skilled workers). The more recent the published cutoff date, the more slots have opened.
In March 2026, the "Dates for Filing" chart for EB-2 advanced significantly for most countries — except India and China, which maintain historical backlogs. For Brazil, the EB-2 cutoff date reached 2022, representing a considerable advance and opening an important window for those waiting.
Important note: Advancing in the Visa Bulletin does not mean automatic approval. It means that those with a priority date on or before the published cutoff date can take the next step — adjustment of status (if in the US) or consular visa application (if abroad).
If your priority date is on or before 2022, now may be the time to prepare documents for adjustment of status or a consular visa. Every month counts — the Visa Bulletin can retrogress at any time if demand exceeds the available visa supply.
Monthly monitoring and quick action are essential. Those who were passively waiting for this window must act immediately — and for that it is essential to have all documentation organized and ready in advance.
